When I first became familiar with the vision statement for Varna After School Program, I'll admit I was ambivalent. 'Building community one child at a time' seemed a lonely departure from 'it takes a village to raise a child'. However, now under the current threat of coronavirus- when social distancing is a strict dictum for us all- the words suggest to me instead an adaptive collectivism. The villages may be temporarily disbanded, but the community will remain.
In recognition of the challenges families face keeping children busy at home, VASP has launched this blog to offer diverse activity ideas and an occasional relevant resource. Featured projects require practical, accessible household materials.
